The View from Here: Orange County Perspectives

A selling exhibition in collaboration with the estates of noted art collectors

Art Resource Group presents The View from Here, an exhibition of nationally and historically significant artworks from the estates of several local collectors, to be held from October to December at the Art Resource Group gallery, located at 20351 Irvine Avenue, Studio C-1. One of a series of events Art Resource Group has planned for this year to celebrate and encourage serious collecting in Orange County, this exhibition also marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the company founded by Miriam L. Smith.

The exhibition The View from Here highlights the vibrant and forward-thinking perspectives of local art enthusiasts as they curated their personal collections. Many of these works were purchased in the 1970s and 80s, a period that has become increasingly collectible in recent years, and are by artists whose names add cachet to any collection. This estate event affords collectors the opportunity to acquire these important artworks at resale prices.

The show will focus primarily on the collection of the Estate of Richard and Grace Narver, two important members of the Orange County arts community who served as Laguna Art Museum Trustees and volunteers. Prior to taking up residence in Three Arch Bay, the Narvers had also been instrumental members and supporters of the Pasadena Art Museum. Throughout their lives, but particularly in the 1970s and 1980s, they were avid and progressive collectors of contemporary art, developing an eclectic and sometimes whimsical collection that nonetheless included noteworthy works by renowned artists including Larry Bell, Sam Francis, Henry Moore, Ed Moses, and Wayne Thiebaud, among many others.

Several other private collections are also represented in the exhibition, which includes over forty works of art by artists of both national and international reputation. On the whole, the show highlights and celebrates an underrepresented facet of Orange County art collecting: the serious collector with a curatorial eye.

"We're proud of our history of helping clients develop art collections of significance through our advisory service, but I’m also thrilled to be able to showcase the collections of visionary Orange County art enthusiasts who forged their own path," says Art Resource Group owner Miriam Smith. "It just goes to show how fun and easy collecting can be, even when you’re taking the process of curating or investing in a collection quite seriously."
