ABOUT THE ARTIST
American, b. 1934
Born in Berkeley, California, he is known as one of the founders of West Coast Minimalism. He attended the California College of Arts and Crafts where he studied with Gordon Onslow-Ford and Tony DeLap. In 1966, he began a teaching career that included the University of California, Irvine, the University of Nevada and the University of California, Santa Barbara. In 1966, he also developed what became his signature sculptural forms: tall leaning planks made from wood, coated with fiberglass and then painted.
