ABOUT THE ARTIST
American, 1908 - 1991
In 1946 Michael West made reference to "The New Art," which was later more formally known as Abstract Expressionism. West’s work reveals her gift in the Abstract Expressionism movement. She has made an exceptional contribution as one of the early proponents of Abstract Expressionism or Action Painting through her artwork, poetry, and friendships with the many other early members of the New York School including Arshile Gorky, Hans Hofmann and Richard Pousette-Dart.
